Odisha: Private hospital sealed after pregnant woman dies during transfer to higher facility

Medical Negligence
Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident that has sparked public outrage, the district administration of Jagatsinghpur sealed a private hospital on Thursday following the death of a pregnant woman, allegedly due to medical negligence.
The administration, led by senior officials including the Sub-Collector and the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), decided to transfer all patients from the facility to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

As her condition worsened, the attending doctors reportedly advised her family to transfer her to a private medical college and hospital in Bhubaneswar. However, her condition further deteriorated during the transfer, and she was declared dead on arrival at the medical college.
The woman’s family members, however, blamed medical negligence at the private hospital in Jagatsinghpur for her death. They reportedly resorted to stone pelting at the health facility to vent their anger, reports Sambad English.
In response to the unrest, police detained three individuals in connection with the stone pelting incident. As per the Reporters Today, on Thursday, the victim’s family members staged a road blockade demanding adequate compensation. They also urged the authorities to arrest the doctor involved and take strict action against the hospital management.
The incident highlights serious gaps in patient safety and accountability in private healthcare facilities.
