Overcrowding at Niloufer Hospital raises concerns over bed availability, basic amenities

Hyderabad: Increasing patient inflow at Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad has raised concerns among attendants over overcrowding, admission delays and inadequate basic amenities.
The growing burden on one of Telangana's largest government hospitals for women and children has raised questions about whether existing infrastructure is keeping pace with demand.
Niloufer Hospital caters to patients not only from Hyderabad but also from several districts across the state, resulting in a consistently high patient load. According to attendants, the heavy influx has led to difficulties in securing beds and has affected the availability of basic facilities in some wards.
An attendant from Rajanna Sircilla district, whose sister was admitted for delivery, alleged that two patients were accommodated on a single bed because of shortage. She claimed that similar arrangements could be seen in multiple wards, although she expressed satisfaction with the medical care being provided, reports Deccan Chronicle.
Another attendant from Kodangal said the family had to wait before a bed became available due to the large number of patients seeking treatment. While appreciating the treatment received, the attendant noted that overcrowding often creates logistical challenges within the hospital.
Concerns over delays in admission were also raised by an attendant from Mancherial, whose daughter sustained a head injury on August 4. According to the attendant, the family reached the hospital in the evening but completed the admission process only after several hours.
He further alleged that the patient was shifted between multiple rooms before a bed was allotted and claimed that some areas lacked essential amenities such as functioning fans. He also questioned the practice of accommodating two patients on a single bed, citing concerns related to space and hygiene.
Apart from bed availability, attendants highlighted issues related to sanitation, stating that overcrowding had affected cleanliness and overall patient convenience within the hospital.
Responding to the allegations, Hospital Superintendent G. Vijay Kumar denied that the hospital was facing a shortage of beds. He maintained that every patient received appropriate medical care and asserted that all necessary facilities were available at the institution.
