Udala: In a shocking incident, serious allegations have been raised against the Udala Sub-Divisional Hospital after a patient claimed he was provided expired ear drops for treating a skin condition.
The incident involves a resident of Khaladi village under Udala police limits, who had visited the hospital after developing severe itching and skin sores. Following a medical consultation, he was prescribed medication for his condition.

According to the patient, the issue came to light later the same night when he attempted to use the prescribed medicine. He reportedly discovered that the medicine had already expired in 2025. Shocked by the finding, he informed his family, who then raised concerns about possible negligence in the hospital’s pharmacy system.
In addition to the expiry issue, the patient has further alleged that he was given the wrong medicine. He claims that instead of the prescribed skin treatment lotion, he was provided with ear drops with a similar composition.
Speaking to Odisha TV, the complainant said, “He brought the medicine and applied it. He later informed me that the medicine was past its expiry date. I told him not to use it and that we would take it to the hospital. However, upon reaching there, they denied giving us those medications.”
However, the Sub-Divisional Medical Officer denied the allegations. He said that the disputed medicine was not mentioned in the official prescription and claimed that it was not issued by the Udala Hospital, reports Sambad English.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that to prevent any further deaths due to the alleged use of expired saline following the tragedy at Midnapore Medical College, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued a directive to all medical colleges and hospitals to conduct stock-taking exercises every three months.
