Patient found hanging at AIIMS Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a 70-year-old patient was found hanging from the ceiling fan at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Sources reported that Dilip, a resident of Atalpur in Jajpur district, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the ward of the orthopaedic department at about 1.15 am.
The incident occurred between Monday night and Tuesday morning. The deceased had been admitted to the orthopaedic department at AIIMS Bhubaneswar for osteoarthritis of the knee.

As per the recent media report in TOI, DCP Pinak Mishra said, "We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident. It appears that the patient took the drastic step while other patients in the ward were asleep late at night.”
Another police officer indicated that Sahoo's death could have been the result of his ongoing suffering from his illness. At the time of the incident, the deceased's daughter was staying at a Dharamsala on the hospital premises, with no other family members present with him.
Furthermore, AIIMS authorities revealed that Sahoo was admitted to the hospital on December 5 for osteoarthritis of the knee. The medical team conducted a thorough assessment of his comorbidities and scheduled his knee replacement surgery for December 10.
An AIIMS doctor mentioned that the patient had developed a fever on December 9, prompting a consultation with a medicine doctor. Later, haematuria (blood in urine) occurred, and the patient was placed under the care of a urologist at the institute. The hospital also reported that the security supervisor, along with the ward security personnel, visited the ward at 1 a.m. and found the patient lying on his bed.
A statement from AIIMS Bhubaneswar mentioned, "Our duty doctor, along with a nursing officer, went on a round between 12.45 am and 1 am, and found everything was correct. The patient was on the bed. At 1.15 am, the duty nursing officer and a relative of another patient of the ward spotted Dilip Sahoo hanging from the fan. Police were immediately informed."
The patient was declared dead following a clinical examination at 2:15 am and was subsequently handed over to the police at 2:30 am.
