PMC launches inspection drive for 850 Nursing Homes, Private Hospitals to ensure compliance

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a comprehensive inspection drive across private hospitals and nursing homes in the city following directives from the state public health department. On Thursday, under the Bombay Nursing Home Registration Act of 1949, the PMC conducted inspections at ten private hospitals.
The extensive drive aims to inspect a total of 850 nursing homes and hospitals across Pune to ensure compliance with the Bombay Nursing Home Registration Act of 1949 and the Maharashtra Nursing Home Registration (Amendment) Rules, of 2021, during the month-long campaign.
Dr Nina Borade, the PMC health chief, and Dr Suryakant Devkar, assistant health officer, have requested the cooperation of administrators and directors of private medical centres during the inspection process.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Dr Devkar said, “As per the Maharashtra Nursing Home Registration (Amendment) Rules, 2021 issued by the government notification, nursing homes are inspected twice a year. Any deficiency observed during the checking will be communicated to the hospitals concerned orally or in writing.”
The inspection drive follows instructions from the deputy director of health services, Pune division, and aims to ensure that hospitals and nursing homes maintain adequate health and safety standards for patient care. Dr Nina Borade mentioned that training for health officials was conducted on Wednesday in preparation for the drive.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in response to a pressing shortage of healthcare experts in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) run healthcare facilities, three ward medical officers (WMO) were transferred to maternity homes on Saturday.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been suffering from a shortage of expert doctors and staff. This lack of specialized doctors situation eventually caused inconvenience to citizens and patients. The three transferred WMOs are gynaecologists and have been handling clerical and administrative work at the ward office level for the past several years.
