Pratapgarh Medical College Principal under scanner, UP Govt orders probe

Lucknow: The principal of Dr Sone Lal Patel Autonomous State Medical College in Pratapgarh has come under scrutiny after the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday ordered a high-level probe into allegations against him. A three-member committee has been constituted to investigate the complaint and submit its report within one week.

The probe was initiated after Pratapgarh MLA Rajendra Kumar Maurya lodged a complaint against the college principal. Acting on the complaint, Additional Chief Secretary (Medical Education) Amit Kumar Ghosh directed the Director General of Medical Education and Training (DGME) to constitute an investigation panel.

According to officials, the three-member committee has been asked to examine each allegation in a factual, impartial, and transparent manner before submitting its findings to the government within a week.

Officials said further action will be taken based on the committee's report and in accordance with the applicable rules.

The medical education department said complaints against officials were being dealt with within a time-bound framework and that transparency and impartiality would be maintained during the inquiry, reports TOI.

The investigation comes amid the Uttar Pradesh government's continued emphasis on its "zero tolerance" policy towards corruption and administrative irregularities. Officials said an appropriate decision will be taken after the inquiry committee submits its report.

The probe also coincides with a broader crackdown in the state's health sector. Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government dismissed five medical officers from service and initiated disciplinary proceedings against 16 health department officials over allegations of negligence, dereliction of duty, and corruption.
