Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurates blood component separation unit at Champawat district hospital

Champawat District Hospital has added its first blood component separation unit, strengthening its capacity to provide timely emergency blood support.
Champawat: Access to critical blood components is set to improve in Uttarakhand’s Champawat district with the inauguration of a blood component separation unit at the District Hospital at a cost of around Rs 50 lakh.
The facility was inaugurated on Thursday, with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressing the programme virtually. The Chief Minister said strengthening healthcare infrastructure remains a priority for the state government.
The newly established unit will enable donated blood to be separated into different components, allowing patients to receive the specific component required for their treatment. According to the state government, the facility is expected to support timely availability of life-saving blood components, particularly during serious emergencies.

The unit is the first such facility to be made available in Champawat. Earlier, blood component separation facilities at district hospitals in the Kumaon region were available in Rudrapur and Pithoragarh, reports Hindustan Times.
Health Minister Subodh Uniyal said the facility would help patients access essential blood components locally, particularly those requiring urgent treatment. He added that the unit would reduce the need for patients to depend on hospitals located in other districts.
Addressing the inauguration, Dhami described the facility as an important addition to healthcare services in Champawat. He said the government was working to strengthen medical infrastructure in the district while considering its future healthcare requirements.
Several other healthcare infrastructure projects have also been developed or are underway at District Hospital Champawat. These include a 50-bed critical care block constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 20 crore. The hospital has also been equipped with CT scan, MRI and dialysis facilities.
Construction is currently underway for a diagnostic wing and operation theatres on the first and second floors of the hospital, along with parking facilities on the lower ground floor. The project has an estimated cost of around Rs 11.71 crore.
