Safdarjung Hospital unveils new 17-bed Geriatric Care Ward
New Delhi: Safdarjung Hospital, one of India's premier public healthcare institutions, is proud to announce the successful inauguration of its new Geriatric Care Ward under the Department of Medicine. This facility, dedicated to providing specialized care for elderly patients, addresses the unique healthcare needs of India's growing senior population.
The ward was officially inaugurated today, September 17, by Dr Vandana Talwar, Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital.
The new ward includes 17 dedicated beds, significantly expanding the hospital's ability to serve elderly patients.
Dr Y C Porwal, Head of the Department of Medicine, delivered an address emphasizing the ward's commitment to providing comprehensive care for geriatric patients. The ward offers specialized treatments for age-related conditions, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and mental health support.

Equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and staffed by experienced geriatricians, nurses, and support staff trained in elder care.
It features senior-friendly infrastructure, including non-slip flooring, handrails, and easily accessible emergency call systems. This unit is the second dedicated geriatric care facility in Delhi, marking a significant advancement in specialized elderly care for the region.
Dr Vandana Talwar, Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, stated, "The inauguration of this Geriatric Care Ward marks a significant step forward in our commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare for all age groups. With India's elderly population growing rapidly, this specialized facility will play a crucial role in addressing their unique medical needs."She further said 5 Ms are important mind, mobility, medications, multi complexities, mental health & what matters to the patient.
Dr Porwal, HOD Medicine, emphasized, "Our goal is to provide comprehensive care that addresses not just the physical ailments but also the emotional and social needs of our elderly patients. This ward represents our commitment to holistic geriatric care."
Dr Ashwani, in charge of the Geriatric Unit, highlighted the importance of the new ward, stating, "This is only the second dedicated geriatric care unit in Delhi. It represents a major step forward in providing specialized care for our elderly population, addressing a critical need in our healthcare system."
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Additional Medical Superintendent Dr P.S. Bhatia, Dr Kapil Suri, and Dr R.P. Arora, HODs from various dept, Faculty, and staff.
