SKIMS Srinagar performs first scar-free thyroid surgery
Srinagar: The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar have achieved a major surgical milestone by successfully performing a first-of-its-kind minimally invasive, scar-free thyroid surgery, officials said on Friday.
This achievement marks a significant advancement in the region’s surgical capabilities and highlights SKIMS’ position as a leader in cutting-edge patient care.
According to a recent UNI report, the pioneering procedure was performed by the Department of General and Minimal Invasive Surgery under the leadership of Dr Ajaz Ahmad Malik, Head of the Department and the Endocrine & Breast Surgery Division.

The thyroid surgery involved a technically complex remote-access minimally invasive technique for thyroid gland removal, thereby not leaving a visible scar on the neck.
This approach represents a major leap forward in minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery and has been widely appreciated at both state and national surgical forums for its precision, reduced postoperative trauma, and improved patient recovery outcomes, a spokesperson of SKIMS said.

Ashraf Ganie said, reports UNI.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that, in a major step toward enhancing drug safety and patient care, the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, has constituted a Pharmacovigilance Committee to oversee and report Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) and conduct benefit-risk assessments of medicines. A similar committee has also been constituted at SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina. Both panels will be chaired by the respective Medical Superintendents and will include doctors from various departments as members.
