Chennai: In a shocking incident, a ward attendant from Government Stanley Medical College Hospital was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a 55-year-old woman at her home in Korukkupet.

According to police, the woman, who lives with her family, suffers from severe diabetes. After undergoing a surgical procedure that required the amputation of a portion of her right foot, she was unable to visit the hospital for follow-up care and was receiving treatment at home.

The 58-year-old accused had been visiting her home to dress the surgical wound. On Saturday afternoon (February 22, 2026), while changing the dressing, he allegedly sexually harassed the woman while she was alone at home with her young grandson.

Speaking to the Hindu, the police said that when the woman raised an alarm, he allegedly threatened her before fleeing the scene.

Following a complaint filed at the R.K. Nagar police station, authorities registered a case against the accused. He was arrested and later remanded to judicial custody after interrogation.

Police investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the misconduct. This incident has raised concerns about the safety of patients receiving in-home medical care.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a hospital employee had been accused of sexually assaulting a 29-year-old woman while she was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Sabarmati following an overdose attempt. The Sabarmati police have registered a complaint against the accused in connection with the incident. According to the first information report (FIR), the woman, who was married two years ago, had been living with her parents due to ongoing marital discord with her husband and in-laws.
