The hospital has also doubled the capacity of its medical and surgical intensive care units from 10 to 20 beds each. The expansion also includes an isolation ICU for organ donation cases, an upgraded emergency department and a dedicated helpdesk.
Addressing the gathering, Sanghavi said the hospital handles 4,500 to 5,000 OPD patients every day and has the capacity to provide treatment to around 1,500 inpatients, reports TOI.
He also praised the hospital’s organ donation team for its contribution to saving lives and noted the growth of dialysis services in Surat. According to Sanghavi, the city, which once had only one dialysis centre, now has more than 30 such facilities.
Sanghavi also said work on a new 1,500-bed hospital at Kamrej is progressing. He urged healthcare workers to ensure that quality medical services reach every person in need.
The Deputy Chief Minister also cautioned against ragging in medical institutions and called for greater discipline and responsibility among medical students.
Sanghavi later took to X to highlight the newly inaugurated healthcare facilities, saying the expansion would provide patients in Surat and South Gujarat with more accessible, faster, and high-quality treatment.
