Telangana Medical Council takes on Hospital for Offering Training Courses for Unqualified Persons by Specialist Doctors

Hyderabad: Taking action against a Hyderabad-based hospital for allegedly offering training courses for unqualified persons by specialist doctors, the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) has sought an explanation in this regard.

Writing to the Medical Director and Hospital Management of Maatlis Hospital, the Registrar of TSMC referred to the information circulating in the social media platforms stating that the hospital in question is conducting a training programme for unqualified persons by the specialist doctors in the hospital.

The Council has clarified that providing such training is illegal as per the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 and also as per the TSMC Act. In this regard, the letter mentioned, "This is to inform to you that the Telangana State Medical Council has noted that an information was circulating in social media and in other media stating that your hospital is conducting training programme for unqualified persons by your hospital doctors i.e. Dr.Sandeep, Emergency Medicine, Dr.Ravi Kumar Reddy, Cardiologist, Dr.Sai Krishna, General Physician, which is illegal as per the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 & also as per the TSMC Act."

In the letter, the State Medical Council further enclosed the advertisement in question and sought an explanation from the hospital addressing the issue. "As per NMC Act, 2019 & Code of Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics-Regulations, 2002 of NMC, which comes under un-ethical Act. I am herewith enclosing your pamphlet with which you have given advertisement," stated the letter in this regard.

Maatlis Hospital has been asked to submit the explanation by 26.01.2024 and also withdraw the concerned training courses. The Council has also warned the hospital authorities that if such courses are not withdrawn, the council shall take appropriate legal action in this regard.

"Hence, in view of the above, you are hereby directed to submit your explanation by 26-01-2024 and also withdraw the training courses conducting by your hospital, failure of which the Telangana State Medical Council will take appropriate actions as per law," the TSMC letter mentioned in this regard.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a bid to ensure transparency and authenticity, TSMC decided to launch an online database of registered doctors. This user-friendly registry will be accessible to the public, allowing individuals to easily verify the legitimacy of doctors before seeking their consultation.

With over 60,000 doctors enlisted in TSMC, the absence of digital records posed a challenge during council elections. Renewing registrations was particularly difficult as there was no online option available. In the absence of a streamlined process, TSMC introduced a portal during the recent elections, addressing concerns related to certification, renewals, NoCs for practising in other states, and more.
