Woman dies at Odisha hospital during tumour surgery, family alleges medical negligence
Bhadrak: Tensions rose at a private hospital in Odisha's Bhadrak district following the death of a woman on Thursday night as the family members and villagers have reported it to be a case of medical negligence.
The deceased have been identified as Sanjulata Patra from the Guhalipala village under Dhusuri police limits. She was admitted for a tumour operation at the Salandi Hospital on Wednesday.

During the operation on Thursday night, she passed away. The family members and villagers reached the hospital and gheraoed it while alleging medical negligence.
Speaking to Odisha TV, Srimati Patra, the daughter of the deceased said, "When father reached the hospital, she had already been taken into the ICU. The ICU doesn’t have the required facilities. They were carrying out the operation without administering anaesthesia injection to her."
A relative, Debasis Patra said, "When I last saw our patient, she had already died. What they were doing is only drama. At about 2.30 am, they told us that our patient was no more."
A team from the Bhadrak town police station reached the spot immediately and began discussions with the family members to enquire into the incident.
The hospital has denied the allegations and called them baseless. The police have begun their investigations after the family members of the deceased filed a complaint against the hospital.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that in an alleged case of botched-up surgery reported in the state, a private doctor in Uttar Pradesh was booked under various charges for allegedly conducting a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) on a 26-year-old woman instead of Cholecystectomy (removal of the gall bladder). Apart from holding the doctor responsible for the alleged malpractice, the woman seeks justice for suffering distressing consequences from the alleged botched surgery and the stress from running to various police stations in the hope of getting help but was refused.
