Woman injured after ceiling plaster falls at Rajasthan Govt Hospital, political row erupts

Ceiling Plaster Collapse
Churu: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman was injured after a portion of the roof plaster at a government hospital in Sujangarh collapsed on her while she was leaving the facility on Wednesday afternoon. The incident has drawn criticism from the Congress, which accused the Rajasthan government of negligence and a failure to maintain public infrastructure.
The incident took place at the Government Durgadutt Fatehpuria Maternal and Child Hospital around 1:18 pm on Wednesday, when the woman was reportedly leaving the facility, and a section of the ceiling plaster in the porch area fell on her.

Hospital authorities said the woman sustained injuries and required two stitches. Dr Purusottam Karwa, Principal Medical Officer, Sujangarh, said the hospital administration had already written to the Public Works Department (PWD) on August 4 regarding repair work and had sent another request following the incident.
He added that apart from the porch area, plaster had also come off in another room of the hospital. However, he denied that the building faced a widespread structural issue. Officials have called a mason to assess whether the damaged portion should be removed completely or repaired.
The incident drew criticism from the Congress, which alleged that the condition of public facilities in Rajasthan reflected poor governance. In a post on X, the party said that people visit hospitals for treatment but are facing risks due to deteriorating infrastructure. It also accused the state government of corruption and alleged that public safety had been neglected.
जनता इलाज के लिए अस्पताल जाती है, लेकिन राजस्थान में अस्पताल ही जानलेवा साबित हो रहे हैं।

Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra also criticised the government, claiming that deteriorating conditions in schools and hospitals reflected wider governance issues.
According to The Indian Express, “Whether it’s a school or a hospital, this is the state of affairs everywhere under the government… dilapidated buildings, crumbling systems, and a reckless disregard for public lives,” he said. He added: “In Rajasthan, sometimes a school roof collapses, other times hospital plaster falls on patients… I pray to God for her swift recovery from her injuries. This isn’t just an accident—it’s the harsh reality of the corruption, negligence, and broken systems that have flourished under the current government.”
A response from the state government regarding the allegations was awaited.
