Jamia Millia Islamia celebrates 102nd Foundation Day, Vice-Chancellor escalates demand for medical and nursing college
The University appeals to the government to grant approval for setting up a medical and nursing college which is much-needed not only for the people of Delhi but also its adjoining areas like Noida, Akhtar said.
New Delhi: The Jamia Millia Islamia celebrated its 102nd foundation day on Saturday with Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar addressing the Foundation Day event. Vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar urged the Centre to grant approval for setting up a medical and nursing college in the city.
JMI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar, and Guest of Honour of the function Dr Upendra Giri, Founder & CEO, Upbuild Global Inc., California, USA attended the event.

Dr. Subhas Sarkar started his address by congratulating the teaching and non-teaching fraternity, students, alumni, and all stakeholders. He said that since its establishment, the university has achieved uncountable milestones, which will remain memorable and significant for the nation. Dr. Subhas Sarkar highlighted that the National Educational Policy 2020 facilitates the inclusion of transformative curricula.
The main focus is given to the holistic development of learners, equipping them with key 21st-century skills, and enhancing essential learning and critical thinking. Also, a great focus is given to hands-on experiential learning, and on providing a holistic approach to the learning process., he added.
The Minister congratulated JMI for A++, the most coveted grade awarded by NAAC in 2021. He also extended his wishes to faculty members of Jamia who have been featured on the list of 2% of world scientists released by Stanford University, USA.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a meeting with Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Najma Akhtar came in support to set up a new medical college at the university. During the meeting, PM expressed his willingness for the setting up a medical college at the campus and even agreed to attend the next convocation as Chief Guest.
Addressing the event, Akhtar highlighted the achievements of the University since its inception, saying JMI has always spoken about coexistence and patriotism.
"Jamia has always taught progressiveness, enlightenment, and unity in diversity. The University always speaks about coexistence and patriotism. We have been conducting national and international seminars and conferences on nation building and played a distinctive role in making this dream come true," the vice-chancellor said.
In his address, Sarkar said JMI is among the best Universities in the country and congratulated the teaching and non-teaching fraternity, students, alumni and all stakeholders.
"Since its establishment, the university has achieved uncountable milestones, which will remain memorable and significant for the nation. I congratulate you all, it is a matter of great pride that the institution has passed another milestone," he said.
He said the students, research scholars, and teachers of Jamia have been constantly excelling in studies, teaching, research, and other academic activities.
