Kota Shocker: Doctors allegedly operate on paralysed father instead of injured son

Kota: In a shocking case, a man, who was injured in an accident and was taken to Kota Medical College in Rajasthan, has alleged that the doctors at the institute mistakenly operated on his paralysed father instead of him.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, the Principal of Kota Medical College Hospital, Dr. Sangeeta Saxena, asked the superintendent to form a committee and submit a report about the allegations within 2-3 days. A three-member committee has already been set up and is inquiring about the matter. She further assured to take action against those who will be found negligent.

According to media reports, the patient, Manish, was injured in an accident. He was taken to the Kota Medical College Hospital for treatment, and his surgery was scheduled to take place on Saturday. After the accident, the patient called his father to the hospital. However, after coming out of the OT, he was allegedly shocked to find 5-6 stitches on his father.

Recounting his experience, the patient, Manish, told ANI, "... I met with an accident and got hurt. I called my father. My father is paralysed, and there is no one to look after. I was to be operated on Saturday, so I asked my father to sit and wait outside the operation theatre..."

He was shocked to find stitches on his father after coming out of the OT. The patient said, "I was in the operation theatre. I dont know what happened, but there are 5-6 stitches on him..."

Mentioning that he does not remember anything about the doctor who operated on him, the patient further added, "I dont remember the name of the doctor who operated on me... I am also lying around in this condition. What can I do?..."

Taking cognisance of the matter, the Principal of the institute, Dr. Saxena, has ordered an inquiry. He told ANI, ".. I have asked the superintendent to form a committee and submit a report within 2-3 days. They have formed a three-member committee... They will inquire and inform what happened..."

NDTV has reported that the incident of alleged negligence by the medical staff happened on 12th April. As per the Daily, in the cardiothoracic and vascular surgery department of the hospital, a dialysis fistula had to be made in a patient's hand. Reportedly, an attendant with the same name as the concerned patient was sitting outside the operation theatre in the hospital, and the plastic surgery department was operating on the attendant's son.

When the staff came outside the operation theatre and called out, this attendant named Jagdish raised his hand. After this, the staff took him inside, and an incision was made in his hand to create a fistula. However, after the doctors administered anaesthesia and were in the initial process of the surgery, they realised that there had been a mix-up. So, they put stitches in the area of the incision and left him near his son's ward.
