Maha: Kasturba Gandhi nursing staff protest demanding 8 weekly offs a month
Mumbai: The nurses associated with the Kasturba Gandhi Hospital in Mumbai have staged a protest demanding eight weekly offs every month. The Municipal Labor union said that they would not be resuming their duty until their demands were met.
Similar protests with similar demands were held at the other major civic-run hospitals like Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital, B Y L Nair, and KEM hospitals.

On Thursday, the protest was held at Kasturba Hospital whose staff played a major role during the COVID pandemic. Pradeep Govind Narkar, assistant general secretary of the Municipal Labor Union in Mumbai told the Indian Express, "There is too much workload where nurses work round the clock. They require at least eight days off per month for their well-being and mental health."
Narkar added, "We will continue with the protest until our demands are met."
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about a similar protest held by the nurses of the Delhi government-run GB Pant hospital on the facility's premises alleging that several administration staff had been involved in corruption and other irregularities. In the wake of complaints and allegations of corruption against the hospital administration's staff, the medical superintendent relieved three nursing officers and an officiating nursing superintendent from duty and asked them to go on leave. An order issued by the medical superintendent read, "In view of the allegations and ongoing enquiry, the following nursing officials of GB Pant are hereby relieved of their duties and ordered to proceed on leave immediately. Further, these officials shall make themselves available for enquiry as and when called."
