New Delhi: Offering major relief to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) aspirants, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has reduced the fees for the examination by Rs 750 for each candidate.

With this, the General and OBC candidates will have to pay Rs 3500 as examination fees and Rs 2500 will have to be paid by the SC, ST and PWD candidates. This relief can be availed by all the candidates who shall submit their application form.

Following the NBE relief, the fees for the postgraduate medical entrance test has become even lesser than the fees applicable back in 2013. Back in 2013, the General and OBC candidates had to pay Rs 3750 and SC/ST/PWD candidates had to pay Rs 2750 as exam fees.

This was further increased in 2021 by Rs 500. Following this, the fees became Rs 4250 for General and OBC candidates and Rs 3250 for SC/ST/PWD candidates.

However, this year, providing relief to the NEET PG candidates, NBE has reduced the fees by Rs 750. Writing to the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the President of NBEMS, Dr. Abhijat Sheth mentioned in a letter dated 05.01.2024, "At the outset I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to the Hon'ble Minister for his leadership because of which NBEMS has been successful in achieving its objective and improving the quality of Medical Education in India."

Announcing its decision to reduce the exam fees, the NBE letter further mentioned, "In order to provide benefit to lakhs of candidates appearing in NBEMS examinations, NBEMS has decided to reduce the examination fee by Rs. 750/- for each candidate."

"Any candidate submitting the application form for the forthcoming examination after 01.01.2024 will be given the benefit of the fee reduction," it added.

According to the NBE letter, the revised fee schedule is as follows:

S. No

Current Fee

3500 (General and OBC) 2500 (SC, ST and PWD)

*The revised fee w.e.f 2024 is lesser than the fee taken from the candidates in 2013

Expressing gratitude to the Union Health Minister, Dr. Sheth further mentioned in the letter, "This fee reduction would not have been possible without inputs from you. I on behalf of Governing Body NBEMS assure you that NBEMS will continue to work towards providing more specialist manpower, conducting quality examinations, providing training opportunities, etc. under your guidance."

Hailing the NBEMS decision to reduce the fees, the National Chairman of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) mentioned on X (formerly Twitter), "Good move and thanks to @NbeIndia & @MoHFW_INDIA @mansukhmandviya for reducing the fee of NEET PG examination. Also requesting to kindly make sure that proper arrangements at the examination centre is made. Clean toilets , drinking water , air conditioning. These are very important."

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that back in 2022, doctors questioned the huge fees charged by NBE for organizing NEET-PG exam when there was a lack of basic facilities during the exam. Dr. Rohan Krishnan, who was the president of FAIMA at that time, had highlighted that even though NBE charged Rs 5,000 per general candidate for only appearing in the exam, the NEET PG 2022 candidates were complaining that the exam centres lacked the basic facilities including the availability of water, air conditioning etc.
