UP Expands TB detection campaign to all 75 districts

Lucknow: In a move to combat the growing threat of tuberculosis (TB) in Uttar Pradesh, the state health department has decided to expand its intensive TB detection campaign to cover all 75 districts. This move, following direct instructions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was initially limited to only 15 high-priority districts.

The new directive was issued by Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma, Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, who instructed all district magistrates and divisional commissioners to implement the initiative across their respective regions.
The campaign will concentrate on crucial areas such as tracing, testing, treatment, and technology, with a strong emphasis on inter-departmental coordination. Stressing the importance of collective effort for the initiative's success, Sharma urged all stakeholders to actively engage in the campaign and contribute to its achievement.
In a recent review of the TB control program, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed officials to adopt a mission-mode approach to expedite the state's progress in meeting its targeted goals.
As per the recent media report by TOI, the CM added, "The TB eradication campaign needs to be turned into a movement for which public participation is a must. Therefore, there is a need to use the COVID-19 pandemic management strategy as a template to eradicate the disease."
The intensified 100-day TB detection campaign, launched on December 7 by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, began in Barabanki, one of the 15 districts initially selected for the initiative. Along with Barabanki, the other districts earmarked for the pilot phase include Amethi, Ayodhya, Basti, Deoria, Etawah, Farrukhabad, Hathras, Pilibhit, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Rampur, Siddharth Nagar, Sitapur, and Sultanpur.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a move aimed at eliminating tuberculosis by 2025, five years ahead of the global target, the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare announced the introduction of the BPaLM regimen - a novel treatment for Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) - under its National TB Elimination Program (NTEP).
