UP Medical Colleges to have organ donation facility by 2024: Mansukh Mandaviya
Agra: Union Health Minister and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya on Saturday said that purchase of machines, availability of doctors and training will be ensured so that every medical college in the country could have the facility of organ transplant by the end of 2024.
The Union Minister was addressing an organ donation pledge programme which was organised for the first time in the country in Agra on the occasion of the Prime Minister's birthday. Union Minister of State for Health Prof SP Singh Baghel was also present on the occasion.

He laid the foundation stone of 23 Integrated Public Health Laboratories and 87 Block Public Health Units, inaugurated the Super Speciality Block at Sarojini Naidu Medical College and unveiled the Organ Donation Registry on the occasion.
Mandaviya said that any hospital that wants to open organ transplant facility will be given financial assistance of Rs 1.25 crore from the Union Government. He said that during organ donation, the patient has to take medicines throughout his life and has to undergo many tests, for this he or she will be given financial assistance of Rs 10,000 per month from the central government.
He said that the government's aim is to increase organ donation from 2 per cent to 60 per cent.
Addressing the event at GIC Ground, Agra, the Union Minister said that there is no greater virtue than organ donation. He said that another person gets a new life after the death of one person through organ donation.
He said that the Modi government is guaranteeing free treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh to 60 crore people of the country. He said that under the Ayushman Bhava campaign, Seva Pakhwada will run from September 17 to October 2, in which more and more people should get their Ayushman cards.
Mandaviya said that earlier the youth of the country had to go abroad to study MBBS, but in the last nine years the number of MBBS seats has doubled under the Modi government. "Earlier there were 54,000 seats, which has now increased to 1.07 lakh," he said.
He said that the objective of the Ayushman Bhava campaign is to ensure adequate coverage of all health schemes. He said the campaign unites government sectors, civil society organisations and communities under a common mission to ensure that every person receives essential health services without any disparity or exclusion.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in his video message said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always given utmost importance to the health and well-being of the citizens.
Lauding the Organ Donation Pledge initiative, he said that organ donation can give a new life to another person. He encouraged the attendees to take a pledge to donate their organs so that this message resonates across the country.
