2 Arrested in Hyderabad Over Illegal Prescription Drug Supply
Hyderabad: The Commissioner's Task Force, Golconda team, along with the SR Nagar Police, arrested two individuals for their alleged involvement in the illegal supply and purchase of prescription medicines and cough syrups in Hyderabad.
The arrested individuals were identified as Pathan Saleem, 28, a pharmacy worker and resident of Yousufguda, and Prashanth Reddy, 19, an unemployed resident of Sanath Nagar.
During the operation, police seized 12 Termin injections, 10,000 Tapentadol (Tapazole) 100 mg tablets, 450 bottles of Senkof cough syrup and six bottles of Alkof DX cough syrup. A OnePlus Nord 5 mobile phone was also recovered. The total value of the seized drugs and other property was estimated at ₹4.80 lakh.
According to the police, Saleem was working as an assistant to his elder brother at Smart Choice Health Pharmacy in Sanath Nagar. In his brother’s absence, he allegedly sold Termin injections, Tapentadol tablets and cough syrups without valid prescriptions and at higher prices with the intention of earning illegal profits.
Police further alleged that Saleem used his brother’s pharmacy rubber stamps and had rented a separate storage space in the same building, where the medicines were allegedly stocked before being supplied illegally.
According to the police, the second accused, Reddy, allegedly purchased Senkof and Alkof DX cough syrups along with Tapentadol tablets from Saleem for personal consumption. The Hindu reports that the arrested individuals, along with the seized medicines and other material, were handed over to the Drug Inspector, Khairtabad Zone, for further legal action.
