AstraZeneca Strengthens India Presence with New Mumbai Corporate Office

Mumbai: AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited has inaugurated a new corporate office in Mumbai, strengthening its presence in India as the company seeks to expand access to innovative treatments and deepen collaborations across the healthcare ecosystem.
Spread across 25,600 sq ft, the new office was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of senior government officials, diplomatic representatives and members of the AstraZeneca team.
Over the past three years, AstraZeneca has introduced more than 25 new medicines and indications in India and is currently conducting around 80 global clinical trials in the country. These efforts support the development of new treatments, strengthen India's contribution to global clinical research and aim to accelerate access to appropriate medicines for patients.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the state has a strong and growing pharmaceutical and life sciences ecosystem, supported by skilled talent, leading institutions and robust healthcare infrastructure.
"AstraZeneca's decision to establish its India commercial office in Mumbai reflects confidence in the state's capabilities and its potential as an innovation hub," Fadnavis said, adding that the state welcomed the company's continued commitment to Maharashtra and the opportunities it could create for collaboration, capability building and skilled employment.
Praveen Rao Akkinepally, Country President and Managing Director of AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited, said India was at an important stage in healthcare development, with growing needs for earlier diagnosis, innovative treatments and more equitable access.
"Our stronger presence in Mumbai strengthens our ability to work with partners across the healthcare ecosystem and advance solutions that address the needs of patients in India," Akkinepally said.
He added that AstraZeneca's workforce of nearly 5,000 employees across the country shared a common ambition to advance science, improve access to life-saving therapies and help more people live healthier lives.
The company said expanding its presence in Mumbai would support its efforts to develop new access pathways for innovative treatments. It is also working with governments and industry partners to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and develop solutions across the continuum of care, including prevention, awareness, diagnosis and treatment.
The new office is expected to facilitate closer collaboration across AstraZeneca's key therapy areas in India: oncology, biopharmaceuticals and rare diseases.
Arun Krishna, Non-Executive Director on the Board of AstraZeneca Pharma India Limited and Area Vice President, Asia, at AstraZeneca, said India was becoming an increasingly important contributor to the company's growth across Asia.
"The momentum of our business, the evolution of our portfolio, and the depth of talent and capabilities in the country provides a strong foundation for the opportunity ahead," Krishna said.
He added that the new commercial office would support closer engagement with stakeholders and the continued development of employees, further strengthening India's contribution to AstraZeneca's regional and global ambitions.
The company said the expansion would also support continued investment in talent development and capability building in India, creating opportunities for professionals across different functions.
AstraZeneca's operations in India span commercial activities, site management and monitoring, technology, research and development, and global business services. The company said the Mumbai office would support its broader efforts to expand access to innovative medicines, deepen partnerships and address India's evolving healthcare needs.
AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines across key therapy areas, including oncology, biopharmaceuticals and rare diseases.
With more than 5,000 employees across India, the company aims to advance innovative science, expand access to differentiated medicines and contribute to patient care through commercial operations and partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem.
