CDSCO Reorganises Workforce, Transfers 95 Officials Amid Rising Compliance Concerns

New Delhi: In a major administrative move aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight and improving efficiency, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has transferred around 95 officials, including Assistant Drug Controllers and Drug Inspectors, across various regions of the country as part of a large-scale reshuffle to enhance compliance, reduce long tenures, and ensure transparency in the pharmaceutical regulatory system.
The reshuffle impacts key personnel involved in drug approvals, inspections, and enforcement, indicating a significant reorganisation within the national drug regulatory framework.
Assistant Drug Controllers and Drug Inspectors play a crucial role in ensuring drug quality, monitoring safety standards, and enforcing compliance across pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution channels.
The transfers are part of a structured policy that involves periodic rotation of officials to prevent prolonged postings in a single location and to maintain impartiality and accountability in regulatory functioning. By implementing such rotations, the regulator aims to curb inefficiencies and strengthen monitoring mechanisms across different regions.
The move comes at a time when regulatory scrutiny has intensified due to rising concerns over drug quality, counterfeit medicines, and compliance gaps in the pharmaceutical sector.
The CDSCO, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is responsible for regulating drugs, medical devices, and clinical trials in India, and such measures are part of broader efforts to reinforce the country’s regulatory ecosystem, reports The Economic Times.
