Counterfeit Version of Sun Pharma anti-epileptic medicine Levipil 500 seized in Telangana

Telangana: Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, seized Spurious Drug 'Levipil 500' Tablets (Levetiracetam Tablets 500 mg), falsely claimed to be manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd.
Based on intelligence gathered by Drugs Control Administration officials, raids were conducted at several dealers in Hyderabad and Karimnagar, leading to the detection of a Spurious Drug – a Counterfeit Version of ‘Levipil 500’ Tablets (Levetiracetam Tablets 500 mg) – circulating in the market.
Levipil 500 Tablet is an anti-epileptic medicine used to treat fits in epilepsy.
Counterfeit drugs were seized during the raids at Arvind Pharma Distributors, located in SBI Colony, Kavadiguda, Hyderabad, and at Venu Medical Agencies, located in Sai Nagar, Doctors Street, Karimnagar.
A comparison statement for the suspected batches was obtained from the original manufacturer, Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd., against the corresponding genuine batch. The manufacturer confirmed that the batch of ‘Levipil 500’ Tablets (Levetiracetam Tablets 500 mg) detected by the Drugs Control Administration were indeed “Counterfeit Drugs”.
"During the raid conducted on 4 th July, 2025 at Arvind Pharma Distributors, SBI Colony, Kavadiguda, Hyderabad, and the raid conducted on 5 th July, 2025 at Venu Medical Agencies, located in Sai Nagar, Doctors Street, Karimnagar, a counterfeit version of ‘Levipil 500’ Tablets (Levetiracetam Tablets 500 mg), bearing Batch No.: GTF1540A, Mfg. Date: May-2024, Exp. Date: Apr-2026, and falsely claimed to be manufactured by Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd., Vill. Kokjhar, Dist. Kamrup, Assam, was detected," the Telangana Drugs Control Administration said in a press note.
Counterfeit drugs were seized during both raids.
Sri G. Sreenivas, Deputy Director-I, Sri. M. Srinivasulu, Assistant Director, Karimnagar, Smt. D. Saritha, Assistant Director, Secunderabad, Smt. P. Renuka, Drugs Inspector, Musheerabad, Sri. P. Karthik Bharadwaj, Drugs Inspector, Karimnagar, Sri. B. Govind Singh, Drugs Inspector, Begumpet, Sri. C. Vivekananda Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Khairatabad, Sri V. Ajay, Drugs Inspector, Goshamahal, Sri. G. Anil, Drugs Inspector, Malakpet, Sri. K. Murali Krishna, Drugs Inspector, Malkajgiri, Sri Raja Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Kamareddy, Smt. Page 3 of 5 T. Chandana, Drugs Inspector, Mancherial, and Sri. P. Shravan Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Peddapalli, were among the officers who carried out the raids and detected the counterfeit drug stocks.
Further investigation will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken against all offenders involved.
