Goa FDA issues advisory on 156 banned FDCs
Panaji: Following a recent ban on 156 fixed-dose combinations by the Central Government, the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of Goa has issued an advisory.
Medical Dialogues team in August reported that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare prohibited the manufacture for sale, sale and distribution for human use of 156 fixed dose combinations indicated for common cold, fever, bacterial and fungal infections, duodenal ulcers, nausea, and vomiting, fatty liver with diabetes.
This prohibition was imposed pursuant to recommendation of the Expert Committee and Drugs Technical Advisory Board for the reason that these FDCs have no therapeutic justification.

Following this, Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of Goa has issued an advisory. In an advisory, all the drug retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, Governments hospitals, District Hospitals, Urban Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Primary HealthCentres, Dispensaries under the Directorate of Health Services, Goa Medical College and Hospital, Goa Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Goa Medical Council, Indian Medical Association as well as the Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) across the State are informed to take note of the ban on FDCs.
"All the RMPs, doctors, physicians are advised to ensure that no prescriptions are issued for these drugs in interest of patient's safety and all the retailers and wholesalers are advised to exercise extreme care and caution not to dispense or distribute these banned drugs," the advisory reads.
"Drug retailers, wholesalers, hospitals, Dispensaries, clinics are advised to identify these drugs at their premises and remove the same from their shelves and return back to their respective suppliers under intimation to the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration. Any deviation or non-compliance of this banned drugs notification shall attract severe penal action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act," FDA advisory noted.
The list of FDCs banned included Mefenamic Acid plus Paracetamol Injection, Omeprazole Magnesium + Dicyclomine HCl, Sucralfate + Acelofenac, Ursodeoxycholic Acid + Metformin HCl, Sucralfate + Domperidone, Minoxidil +Aminexil, Tetracycline + Colistin Sulphate, Clindamycin Phosphate + Zinc acetate, Norfloxacin + Tinidazole (with Betacyclodextrin) Eye ointment, Cetirizine HCl + Paracetamol + Phenylephrine HCl, Levocetirizine + Phenylephrine HCl, Aceclofenac 50mg + Paracetamol 125mg oral liquid, Paracetamol + Pentazocin and others.
The fixed dose combinations that are currently prohibited include a number of products marketed by pharmaceutical giants such as Sun Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Cipla, Alkem Laboratories, Mankind Pharma, Torrent Pharmaceuticals.
