Gujarat Shocker: Chemists Allegedly Guide Family to Sedate, Kill 19-Year-Old Aspiring Medical Student

Ahmedabad: A horrifying blend of family violence and medical misuse has emerged from Banaskantha, where a 19-year-old aspiring medical student was allegedly sedated with 50 pills, on the advice of two local chemists, before being strangled by her own relatives.
According to a recent media report in the Times of India, the family administered the tablets to weaken her and then staged the killing as a suicide to “protect their honour.”
Investigators revealed that the chemists not only supplied the large quantity of pills but also guided the family on how to administer them. The girl was force-fed the sedatives, after which she was allegedly strangled by family members who then attempted to disguise the death as self-inflicted, manipulating the scene to mislead authorities.
The detailed chargesheet outlines how the family pre-planned each step, depending heavily on the chemists’ instructions to ensure the teenager was incapacitated. Police have also documented their attempt to tamper with evidence at the scene. The role of the chemists—registered professionals—in providing and recommending such a quantity of medication has become a central point of investigation, raising serious concerns about unlawful dispensing practices.
The case has provoked widespread outrage across Gujarat, with activists calling for tougher action against honour killings and stricter oversight of pharmaceutical sales in rural pockets. The Times of India reports that police are now examining potential charges of abetment and illegal supply of medicines against the two chemists.
