Ipca Labs Partners BRL to Develop Next-Generation Subcutaneous Biologics for Cancer, Autoimmune Diseases

Mumbai: Ipca Laboratories Ltd. has entered into a definitive global licensing agreement with Bhami Research Laboratory Pvt. Ltd. (BRL), gaining access to the latter's proprietary high-concentration subcutaneous biologics delivery platform for the development and commercialization of multiple monoclonal antibody products targeting oncology and inflammatory diseases.
Under the agreement, BRL will undertake proof-of-concept (POC) and formulation development activities using its patented technology platform, while Ipca will be responsible for further research and development, clinical trials, commercial manufacturing, regulatory filings, and global product launches.
The collaboration marks a significant step in Ipca's strategy to expand its biologics and biosimilars portfolio, particularly in the areas of cancer and autoimmune disease treatment. The partnership aims to leverage BRL's innovative formulation technology to develop differentiated biologic therapies that are more convenient, affordable, and patient-friendly.
As part of the deal, BRL will receive defined milestone payments linked to technology transfer activities. The company will also earn royalties on net sales once the licensed products are commercialized.
Commenting on the partnership, Pranay Godha, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ipca Laboratories, said, "By pairing Ipca's established science with BRL's Novel Formulation Platform, we're accelerating developing affordable biologics for people battling cancer and autoimmune disease worldwide."
Dr. Suryakanth M. Pai, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of BRL, said the collaboration would help expand the reach of the company's proprietary technology globally.
"We are delighted to be expanding the reach of our novel, proprietary, patented subcutaneous protein delivery platform technology through this exciting partnership with Ipca to develop differentiated biologics for the global market. This strategic partnership is designed to make patient care convenient, affordable and safe," he said.
Akhil Shah, Director and CEO of We Translate, which acted as BRL's strategic licensing partner in the transaction, said the agreement demonstrates the value of combining innovation with commercialization expertise.
"We Translate was founded with a simple belief—that world-class innovation deserves world-class commercialization pathways. BRL has built a differentiated formulation technology platform, and Ipca brings the scale, expertise, and global reach required to unlock its full potential. We are delighted to support this collaboration and look forward to seeing its impact on the future of biologic drug delivery," Shah said.
Founded in 1949, Ipca Laboratories is a vertically integrated pharmaceutical company with a strong export presence, with overseas markets contributing nearly half of its revenue. The company supplies pharmaceutical products to more than 120 countries and is among the world's leading manufacturers of several active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Its manufacturing facilities have received approvals from major global regulatory agencies, including the USFDA, EDQM, PMDA Japan, and the World Health Organization.
In recent years, Ipca has been strengthening its capabilities in biosimilars and biologics, with a focus on anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory monoclonal antibodies. The company has established a biologics manufacturing facility in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, and a dedicated research and development centre in Mumbai to support biosimilar development. It is targeting key global markets including the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Japan, Canada, India, and other international regions.
BRL, headquartered in Mangalore, is a biotechnology company specializing in protein and peptide drug delivery technologies. The company has developed proprietary platforms focused on high-concentration subcutaneous biologic delivery and oral biologics delivery, with a business model centered on molecule-specific licensing partnerships with biopharmaceutical companies.
We Translate, based in Mumbai, is a life sciences business development and technology partnering firm specializing in licensing and strategic collaborations across the biopharmaceutical industry. The company facilitated the development and execution of the agreement between BRL and Ipca Laboratories.
