Pharmacists Flag HPR Delays, Allege Multiple Drug Stores Running on Single Licence

New Delhi: Several medicine shops in Jharkhand's Chaibasa are reportedly operating using the licence of a single registered pharmacist, while the Health Professional Registry (HPR) registration process for many pharmacists remains pending, raising concerns about regulatory compliance and pharmaceutical services in the district.
The issue came to light during discussions among pharmacists and stakeholders, where concerns were raised over the availability of registered pharmacists at retail drug outlets and delays in completion of HPR registration formalities.
According to a recent Dainik Bhaskar report, a number of drug stores are allegedly functioning on licences linked to pharmacists who are not physically present at the establishments. This has led to questions regarding compliance with regulations that require the presence of a registered pharmacist during operation of medical stores.
Pharmacists have also expressed concerns regarding delays in HPR registration, stating that the pending registrations are creating difficulties for professionals in completing documentation and regulatory requirements. The issue has reportedly affected a significant number of pharmacists in the region.
Pharmacists have sought intervention from the concerned authorities to resolve the registration-related issues and streamline the HPR enrolment process. They have also demanded stricter monitoring of drug stores allegedly operating in violation of pharmacy regulations.
The report highlighted concerns that improper implementation of licensing norms and pharmacist shortages could affect the quality of pharmaceutical services provided to patients. Stakeholders stressed the importance of ensuring that licensed pharmacists remain available at medicine outlets as required under applicable regulations.
Dainik Bhaskar reports that pharmacists urged authorities to address both the HPR registration backlog and the alleged misuse of pharmacist licences to ensure proper regulation of medical stores and safeguard patient interests.
Discussions are continuing with the concerned departments regarding corrective measures and resolution of the issues raised by pharmacists in the district.
