Punjab Drug Inspector Arrested for Taking Rs 1 Lakh Bribe from Pharma Manufacturer

Bribery Case
New Delhi: A drug inspector posted in Muktsar has been arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a drug manufacturer in Bathinda. The arrest followed a trap laid by vigilance officials after a complaint was filed by a local resident.
According to vigilance officials, the complainant alleged that the drug inspector had been threatening and pressuring him to pay money. The officer had reportedly demanded ₹2 lakh from the complainant, who operates a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit, in exchange for providing assistance in a matter related to his factory.
The complainant further stated that the meeting took place at a restaurant where the drug inspector initially sat inside his car and accepted ₹1 lakh in cash packed in a packet. Soon after receiving the money, the accused attempted to leave the spot in his car.
Acting swiftly, the vigilance team intercepted the vehicle and arrested the drug inspector on the spot. Officials also recovered the bribe amount from the car during the operation.
Officials stated that the complainant’s pharmaceutical factory had been sealed a few months ago and was reopened recently. The drug inspector had allegedly been demanding money from the complainant in connection with providing help regarding the factory matter.
The Tribune reports that the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has initiated legal proceedings in the case and registered a formal case in Bathinda, while further investigation is currently underway.
