Telangana DCA Issues Show Cause Notices to 41 Medical Shops in Online Pharmacy Crackdown

According to the DCA, a total of 166 medical shops were inspected across Telangana as part of the special enforcement operation. Of these, 159 shops were linked to online medicine delivery services, including licensed premises of online pharmacy operators and their partner pharmacies, while seven shops were associated with online business-to-business platforms such as IndiaMART.

During the inspections, officials identified several regulatory violations. These included non-maintenance and failure to produce medicine sales bills, failure to maintain prescription drug registers and Schedule H1 drug registers, inability to produce purchase invoices for medicines, dispensing prescription medicines without valid prescriptions issued by registered medical practitioners, sale of medicines without the supervision of registered pharmacists, and improper maintenance of sales and purchase records.

Based on the violations detected, Show Cause Notices were issued to 41 medical shops linked to online pharmacy operations across the state. The DCA stated that further action would be initiated against the establishments in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the rules framed under it.

The administration reiterated that strict adherence to statutory requirements is mandatory for all medical shops, including those associated with online medicine platforms. It warned that any deviation from prescribed norms would attract stringent regulatory action.

The DCA also urged the public to report illegal activities related to medicines and suspected unauthorized drug manufacturing, including activities involving narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Complaints can be lodged through the department’s toll-free helpline.
