Final-Year B.Pharm Student Run Over by Tractor-Trolley, Dies

Amritsar: In a tragic incident, a 21-year-old B.Pharma student lost her life in a road mishap at Chheharta Chowk on Tuesday afternoon, once again highlighting serious lapses in the city's traffic regulation and road safety mechanisms.
According to the recent media report in The TribuneIndia, the victim, Saloni, was a final-year B.Pharmacy student at Government Polytechnic College, Chheharta, and hailed from Hoshiarpur. She was travelling with a classmate to appear for her final semester examination when the fatal accident took place.
Chheharta police station SHO Lovepreet Singh elaborated that the scooter Saloni and her classmate Sudeep were riding was hit by a tractor-trolley, which was reportedly coming from the wrong side.
Following the collision, both riders were thrown off the scooter onto the road. Within moments, another tractor-trolley carrying sand approached from behind and ran over Saloni, causing her death on the spot. Sudeep sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
The SHO stated that with the help of the public, the police arrested drivers of both tractor-trolleys. “Both vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded,” said Lovepreet. Saloni is survived by her parents and a brother who lives in Canada. Police officials said an investigation has been initiated after registering a case. “Strict action will be taken against those responsible. We are also examining the issue of heavy vehicles violating traffic norms in the area,” an officer told Tribune India.
A similar tragedy was reported a day earlier at Maqboolpura Chowk, where a truck rammed into a scooter carrying a woman and her daughter, leading to the girl’s death due to severe head injuries.
Local residents have urged authorities to enforce stricter monitoring and implement stronger road safety measures to prevent such recurring incidents.
