Indore Pharmacist Dismissed for Assault at MGM Medical College

Indore: A pharmacist posted at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College has been dismissed from service nearly 10 months after allegedly assaulting the dean's personal assistant on campus, following a departmental inquiry that found him guilty of serious misconduct.
The dismissed employee, identified as Pharmacist Grade-II Rakesh Gorkhe, was working at the mental hospital attached to the medical college. The action was taken under provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Rules, 1966, after the inquiry concluded that his conduct amounted to grave indiscipline and moral misconduct. The dismissal order was issued by Dean and CEO Dr Arvind Ghanghoria with immediate effect.
According to the inquiry findings, the incident dates back around 10 months when Gorkhe was involved in a dispute with Bhavesh Upadhyay, the personal assistant to the dean. What reportedly began as a verbal altercation escalated into physical violence, during which Gorkhe allegedly assaulted Upadhyay with a belt, causing head injuries and bleeding. The episode triggered panic within the dean’s office and raised concerns about workplace safety inside the institution.
The matter resurfaced months later after a video of the incident went viral on social media, drawing public attention and prompting renewed scrutiny of the case. The circulation of the footage intensified criticism over the delay in administrative action and raised questions regarding accountability and handling of the issue.
Sources indicated that an FIR had been registered soon after the incident and an investigation was initiated, but the delay in decisive disciplinary action became a point of concern. The viral video further amplified demands for strict action against those involved.
According to a recent media report in Dainik Bhaskar, the case has drawn attention due to the delay between the incident and the final disciplinary action, highlighting gaps in administrative response.
Officials stated that the dismissal reflects a zero-tolerance stance towards indiscipline and violence in government institutions, adding that strict action would continue against any employee found guilty of misconduct.
