PCI Begins Direct Certificate Issuance in Gujarat Amid Confusion Over Pharmacy Exit Exam
Ahmedabad: Amid growing uncertainty surrounding the proposed national exit exam for pharmacy graduates, the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has started directly issuing final certificates to students in Gujarat, allowing them to obtain their mandatory registration without delay.
This immediate relief comes at a time when thousands of students were left anxious due to the ongoing debate over the compulsory exit examination, concerns about its implementation, and the absence of clarity on evaluation standards, timelines, and procedures.
The PCI’s step ensures that graduates can proceed with licensing and employment, even as discussions continue over whether the exit test will be enforced, modified or postponed in the coming academic cycle.
This interim arrangement follows months of confusion, during which students and colleges sought clarity on whether the exit test would become a prerequisite for registration. Many had expressed concerns over fairness, logistical challenges, additional financial burden and the lack of finalised guidelines regarding the exam’s structure.
Educational institutions and stakeholders are also calling for transparent consultations before any nationwide rollout, emphasising that the policy must uphold professional standards without placing disproportionate pressure on students, reports The Times of India.
