Top 46 Medical Researchers Receive Prestigious Blackbuck Research Award, 2024
New Delhi: Forty-six top researchers across 41 institutions from 27 cities and 16 states across the country have received the prestigious Blackbuck Awards for Medical Reserach for their contribution to the field of medical research in the country at the Medical Research Summit and Blackbuck Awards organised by Medical Dialogues recently.
The Medical Research Summit and Blackbuck Awards, organized by Medical Dialogues, powered by Scientific Scholar and Wolters Kluwer, took place on 28th July 2024, Sunday, at The Lalit, New Delhi and brought together leading medical researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry experts from across the country to discuss the latest innovations, challenges, and opportunities in medical research.
The awards were presented in the presence of Shri. Harsh Malhotra, Hon. Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport, and Shri Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Minister of State in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, as chief guests. Dr. B. Srinivas, Secretary of NMC, and Dr. Abhijath Sheth, President of NBE, served as Guests of Honour.
Blackbuck- the beautiful rare Indian animal is revered for its resilience and remarkable ability to adapt to its environment. Inspired by the qualities of the Blackbuck, the "Blackbuck Awards for Medical Research" has been established to recognize groundbreaking achievements in medical science.
Similar to how the blackbuck faces threats from habitat loss and poaching, medical research encounters challenges such as funding constraints, regulatory hurdles, and public skepticism, to list a few among many others. By honoring exceptional achievements in medical research in India through the 'Blackbuck Awards,' Medical Dialogues aims to raise awareness of the importance of supporting and nurturing the scientific endeavors that are vital for the health and well-being of the society at large.
The awards were given across four categories namely, Rising Research Award given to the young researchers less than 40yrs of age for their researches, Pioneer Research Award given to senior researchers with their exemplary participation with age more than 40yrs for their cumulative work. Stellar Research Award given for the innovative and customized research projects and Institutional Research Award; a recognition awarded to the various leading institutions involved in medical research.
Dr. Prem Aggarwal, a renowned cardiologist, Chairman Medical Dialogues stated, "The Blackbuck Awards are a testament to the relentless efforts and dedication of our medical researchers. By recognizing and celebrating their achievements, we not only honor their contributions but also inspire the next generation of researchers to pursue excellence in their work. These awards highlight the crucial role of research in advancing medical science and improving patient care."
More than 100 applications were received and winners were selected by an independent jury chaired by Dr. Arun Kumar Agarwal, Former Dean, Maulana Azad Medical College & President at Delhi Medical Council and consisting of other distinguished members, including Dr. Yash Paul Sharma, HOD Dept of Cardiology, PGIMER Chandigarh; Dr. Prof. Vijay Kumar Trehan, Former HOD, Cardiology G.B. Pant Hospital; Dr. Nimesh G Desai, Former Director, Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences (IHBAS); Dr. Ashok Kumar Bagga, Consultant & Former Deputy Director General (ICMR); Dr. Maneesh Singhal, Consultant Jai Prakash Narayan, Apex Trauma Center; Dr. O.P. Kalra, Vice Chancellor, SGT University, Gurugram; Dr. Pawanindra Lal, Former Executive Director and CEO (NBE Medical Sciences); Dr. Achal Gulati, Director Principal and Director Professor of ENT, MGUMST, Jaipur; and Dr. Dharmesh Lal, Scientist E at Department of Research, Indian Council of Medical Research.
The jury meticulously evaluated all the nominations and selected the top 46 achievers who were conferred with the Blackbuck award.
The summit featured insightful panel discussions on various critical topics, providing a platform for experts to share their knowledge, exchange ideas, and explore innovative solutions to optimise healthcare research practices and inturn help improve patient care outcomes in India. These discussions, enriched by esteemed moderators and panelist speakers, offered diverse perspectives on pressing issues in the medical research field, ensuring that comprehensive 360 degree perspectives were well-captured.
Following the panel discussions, the Blackbuck Awards were distributed to recognize outstanding contributions to medical research. This year, 46 researchers were honoured for their exemplary contributions.
This gathering, held at The Lalit, New Delhi, on 28 July 2024, celebrated excellence and endeavoured to inspire and motivate healthcare professionals to push the boundaries of medical research and strive for more remarkable achievements with Indian research at the global research stage.
