NHM, Haryana adjudged winner of outlook Poshan Award 2019 under the policy
Chandigarh: National Health Mission (NHM), Haryana has been adjudged winner of Outlook Poshan Award 2019 under the Policy and Governance category. NHM, Haryana as an institution had applied under the Policy and Governance category and submitted the Wheat Fortification project implemented in the state for which the institute has been adjudged the winner by the esteemed jury which comprised of experts and people with outstanding contributions in the field of nutrition.
This award was received by Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Mr Rajiv Arora and Mission Director, National Health Mission, Haryana Mrs Amneet P.Kumar from the Vice President of India, Mr Venkaiah Naidu at New Delhi late last evening.
Mr Rajiv Arora informed that Outlook Group in partnership with Project Concern International (PCI) /India (its knowledge partner) recently launched a web platform ‘Outlook Poshan: All About Nutrition’ which aims to bring about a transformative change in the nutrition sector and make those changes visible at the ground level.
With this spirit, it was decided to give away awards known as “Outlook Poshan Innovation Awards-2019” to acknowledge the exemplary efforts of individuals and institutions in the field of nutrition. The awards were aimed to recognize the outstanding work of individuals and professionals and institutions in providing innovative solutions to tackling the scourge of malnutrition in India.
Ms Amneet P Kumar said that Haryana has set targets for achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. NHM, Haryana organized a national level consultation meeting in collaboration with NITI Aayog and Centre for Health Research and Development–Society for Applied Studies to address the issue of severe acute malnutrition among children, discuss the strategies to curb malnutrition in Haryana and to bring malnutrition at Centre stage of state’s agenda.
She said that the Zero Home Delivery Campaign has been launched to ensure 100 per cent institutional deliveries in the State. High-Risk Pregnancy Policy (HRP) has been implemented for early detection and timely management of high-risk cases during ANC and delivery. Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritav Abhiyaan is being implemented in the state and institutional Deliveries have increased from 49 per cent in 2006 to 93 per cent in 2019. All the labour rooms across the State have shown tremendous improvement in terms of quality of services for care around birth and have been upgraded in terms of infrastructure, equipment, human resource with the implementation of best practices. Haryana is the first State to devise and implement Pre-conception care Package for a healthy outcome of pregnancy. For the treatment of severe anaemia in pregnant women, Injection Iron Sucrose has been made available free of cost till PHC level. The incidence of Severely Anaemic Women coming for Delivery at Government Health Facilities in the state has reduced from 24 per cent to 5.2 per cent.
She said that Haryana New Born Action Plan was developed in line with India New Born Action Plan to address State specific challenges. Rotavirus vaccine launched to prevent Rotavirus associated diarrhoea inactivated poliovirus vaccine for prevention of polio. Micronutrient Supplementation Programme had been initiated for targeting micronutrient deficiencies like Anaemia, Vitamin-A etc. The state has successfully conducted Measles-Rubella campaign with 99 per cent coverage. Haryana is the first state to launch the Pneumococcal Vaccine from state resources in 2018. As per the guidelines of Government of India, on Anaemia Mukat Bharat, state has framed the strategy for Anaemia free Haryana under ATAL ABHIYAAN, she added.
