NMC Formation Begins: Delhi Elects Dr Harish Gupta to National Medical Commission MAC
Dr Harish Gupta is an alumnus of MAMC and a practising surgeon in the capital. He had been elected as the new president of the Delhi Medical Association for the year 2011-12.
New Delhi: Formation of the National Medical Commission (NMC) to replace the Medical Council Of India (MCI) has now begun in full swing, with the nation's capital, New Delhi electing eminent practitioner Dr Harish Gupta to represent it at the NMC Medical Advisory Council.
Medical Dialogues team had recently reported that the Union Health Ministry had written to the state medical council to nominate representatives for the composition of the MAC in the NMC Act. As the per the letter was written by the Under Secretary to the Govt. of India Health Ministry, Shri Amit Biswas to the president of the various state medical councils, the last date of submission of the nomination is 30th August 2019.
For the same, a meeting was held on the 28th August 2019 to nominate one member from amongst the elected members of the Delhi medical council in Medical Advisory Council in the National Medical Commission. With two members of the state medical council showing interest in being nominated for the said post, the meeting saw 20 members of the council voting to elect the member
15 out of the 20 DMC members chose Dr Harish Gupta, former president Delhi Medical Associaton to represent Delhi in the NMC's first MAC.
" Dr Harish Gupta, Member Delhi Medical Council has been declared elected to Medical Advisory Council Of National medical Commission under Clause 11(1)(e) of National Medical Commission Bill 2019, from the Delhi Medical Council," confirmed the release by the state medical council.
Dr Harish Gupta is an alumnus of MAMC and a practising surgeon in the capital. He had been elected as the new president of the Delhi Medical Association for the year 2011-12.
Speaking to Medical Dialogues Team, Dr Gupta said," In NMC our endeavour will be to bring honesty and Transparency in the Working . Eminent Medical Educationists will be Heading different Board to Upgrade Medical Curriculum .New Medical Colleges will be opened in Each District of the Country to take care of shortage of Doctors in remote areas. Medical Students wii get entrance and will pass MBBS by Single Exam at each stage."
National Medical Commission Bill was approved by the Cabinet on 17th July 2019 and was passed in both Houses of the Parliament on 29th July 2019 and 1st August 2019 respectively, with official amendments.
