A demonstration was staged by the activists of National Students Union of India (NSUI) demanding termination of the principal, Salim Akhtar of Al Farooq Unani Medical College at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya.
The demonstration was done by the lead activists- Vikas Nandwana and Amit Patel. They later submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor voicing their action against the principal and the college.
As clear evidence to their strong demands, a video clipping showing the principal in action of demanding donation for admission in the college has been presented to the higher authorities. Also, a copy of an FIR lodged against Akthar for allegedly beating a student for objecting to give donation has been submitted as a mark of the student's protests.
A student Saddam was reportedly assaulted and abused by Akthar as he refused to grant donation for his admission for the course of Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) course in the college. Saddam had also conducted a sting operation on the principal- where Akthar was allegedly caught on camera demanding Rs 1.37 lakh fee (including Rs 70,000 as course fee) for admission. This incident had irked the principal earlier too.
"We have also demanded of the vice-chancellor to conduct an immediate inspection of the college after constituting a committee. The committee should include a representative of NSUI and student union," Nandwana said, as reported by Free Press Journal.
Acting on the complaint of NSUI, Registrar of the university served a notice to the college administration to probe into the matter by constituting a committee and to take action against Akhtar.
Registrar also mentioned that university will suspend the affiliation of the college on repetition of the incident.
