Chhattisgarh announces new nursing designations; staff nurse renamed as nursing officer

Raipur- The Chhattisgarh government has renamed key posts in the nursing cadre across state-run health institutions. The announcement was made by Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal on Tuesday during a programme held on the occasion of International Nurses Day.
According to an UNI report, under the revised designation system, the Staff Nurse will now be known as Nursing Officer, while the post of Nursing Sister has been renamed Senior Nursing Officer.
Addressing the gathering, the Health Minister said nurses play a central role in the healthcare system and remain closely connected to patients during treatment and recovery. He stated their work reflects service, compassion and dedication, often under demanding circumstances.
Recalling the COVID-19 pandemic, Jaiswal said nursing staff continued to serve patients despite health risks and difficult working conditions. He said nurses stood at the forefront during one of the toughest periods faced by the healthcare system.
The minister further stated that the nurses often care for patients with the same concern and attention as family members. He added that their contribution to medical services deserves greater recognition and respect.
Jaiswal thanked Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and said the state government is continuously working to strengthen healthcare services and improve long-pending facilities and administrative systems in the sector.
The minister congratulated nursing officers for their contribution to healthcare services. Those recognised included Reena Rajput, Neelima Sharma, Ranjana Singh Thakur, Suman Dewangan, Komeshwari Navrange, Pragati Satpute, Sheetal Soni and Namita Daniel, reports UNI.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that President Smt Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the year 2026 on Tuesday to 15 nursing professionals at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. A total of 15 nurses from diverse regions and healthcare settings were honoured in recognition of their exemplary service, unwavering dedication to strengthening public health delivery, and outstanding commitment to community welfare.
