Exemption from Reciprocal Registration for Serving Military Nursing Officers
New Delhi: Providing relief to nursing officers serving in the military, the Indian Nursing Council (INC) has issued revised registration protocols for Military Nursing Service (MNS) officers by exempting them from reciprocal or renewal registration while they are actively serving.
Under the new rules, MNS officers are no longer required to process reciprocal or renewal registration while actively serving. However, it mandates MNS officers, once relieved from active duty to update their records and secure reciprocal or renewal registration from the SNRC where they want to work within six months.

This exemption was taken into consideration after the officers were frequently relocated every 2-3 years across states even though they did not fall under the disciplinary jurisdiction of any State Nursing Registration Council (SNRC).
These guidelines were approved during the Executive Committee meeting on October 26, 2024, and the council issued a notice regarding the update on December 27, 2024.
"The Executive Committee of the Council at its meeting held on 26th October 2024 has resolved that the Military Nursing Service (MNS) Officers need not do reciprocal/renewal registration till they are serving in the MNS as they do not come under disciplinary jurisdiction in any SNRC and are being transferred every 2-3 years from one State to another, subject to the condition they obtain 150 hours of CNE every 5 years," reads the notice.
Further, the notification reads, "Hence Military Nursing (MNS) Officers who are enrolled in NRTS are exempted from Reciprocal Registration until they are in Military Nursing Service. However, within 6 months of being relieved by MNS they shall update their information and obtain reciprocal/renewal registration from the SNRC where they want to work."
