Manipur: JNIMS nurses targeted in extortion; four arrested

Imphal: Manipur police arrested four people for allegedly extorting contractual staff nurses at Imphal's Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), police said on Sunday.
The arrests were made following an FIR lodged by the victims, and Rs 39 lakh and a pistol were seized from their possession in connection with the illegal money extortion from the nurses working on contract at the institute.
“Following an investigation into a case registered over the collection of money from contractual nurses of JNIMS, police on Friday arrested four persons involved in the crime from their respective residences in Imphal West district,” a police statement said, news agency PTI reported.
The accused persons committed the crime at the behest of the banned militant outfit KCP (Taibangnganba) and transferred the collected money to the underground outfit, it added.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a recent fraud case from Rajasthan, the Police recently arrested a man who had duped several students of lakhs of rupees by promising them medical admission and online course subscription. The accused has been identified as Khan, a resident of Alwar. Currently, the Police have taken him into custody following complaints from several students who were duped.
According to officials, Khan allegedly used social media and other digital platforms to lure young students with the promise of guaranteed admission to medical courses. He also took money without fulfilling promises or providing refunds.
