Patna: A horrifying incident in Patna's Alamganj area on Monday morning has left the city in shock, as a retired nurse from Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) and her daughter were shot dead outside their home. The woman’s husband was also critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Mahalaxmi, a 59-year-old nurse who retired just five months ago from NMCH, and her 22-year-old daughter, Santhali. The nurse’s husband, who is a compounder at a private hospital in Bhadraghat, sustained bullet injuries to his leg and arms.
The attack occurred around 9:15 a.m. near the Jatahi temple at Arfabad Colony, under the jurisdiction of the Alamganj police station. Senior police officials, including Patna SSP Avkash Kumar, City SP East K Ramdas, and SDPO Atulesh Jha, rushed to the scene to oversee the investigation. Speaking to TOI, ADG Kundan Krishnan said, "The incident appears to be related to an old dispute with the neighbour. The accused will be arrested soon."
Patna City SDPO, Atulesh Jha, said, "The FSL team and dog squads visited the crime spot and collected evidence. CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being examined to identify the perpetrators. Some suspects have been identified, but their names will not be disclosed now. We are waiting for a formal statement from the injured," reports TOI.
Investigators recovered five empty cartridges, an iron knife, and a hoe from the site.
The couple had a love marriage nearly 30 years ago, and according to police sources, their ongoing feud with a neighbour is a key angle under investigation.
