Rs 90 lakh Disproportionate Assets: Surgery Professor booked by Vigilance

The authorities have also put his wife’s name down under the same case. The couple is in possession of financial resources to the tune of Rs 90.51 lakh, which is disproportionate to their known source of income.
Coimbatore: A professor of surgery at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital has fallen under the radar of Vigilance and has been booked by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for possessing assets disproportionate to his income to the tune of Rs 90 lakh.
The authorities have also put his wife’s name down under the same case. According to the statement made by the DVAC, the couple is in possession of pecuniary resources and properties disproportionate to their known source of income.
The concerned Doctor is a Professor Of Surgery at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. His wife is a junior engineer at the office of a divisional engineer, highways, Coimbatore division since 2010. The couple was in possession of financial resources worth around Rs 44.89 lakh in their name and in names of their family members as on January 1, 2008. The ‘check period’ by the authorities began soon after.
At the end of the check period, as on December 31, 2013, they were the owners of financial resources and properties to the tune of Rs 1.97 crore.
During the check phase, the couple had gained income from the lawful sources to the tune of Rs 1.97 crore and incurred expenses to the tune of Rs 1.35 crore. Seeing that, they could have saved Rs 61.79 lakh in the same period, but on the other hand, the authorities noted that couple had acquired properties to the tune of Rs 1.52 crore during the check period.
With these calculations, Times Of India reports that the couple is currently in possession of financial resources to the tune of Rs 90.51 lakh, which is disproportionate to their known source of income
The information to this effect disclosed the commission of the offences of criminal misconduct by a public servant. The FIR was submitted to the special court for the DVAC cases and the police started the investigation, M Kanagasabapathy, Police Inspector, DVAC, Coimbatore, registered a case against the couple under sections 13 (2) read with 12 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
