Jammu: With her throat slit open in a pool of blood, a 23-year-old nurse was found dead at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super-speciality Hospital yesterday. Moreover, a critical care assistant, who was found next to the deceased’s body with cuts in his both wrists, has been arrested for murdering her.
A murder case has been registered against her male colleague after it came to the fore during preliminary investigation that he had killed the nurse by slitting her throat open before trying to commit suicide. He was also found in a serious condition near her body inside the laboratory of the super speciality hospital at Kakryal, Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Sajad Bhat told PTI.
Hospital spokesperson Man Mohan Harjai informed the news agency, “Vishali was on night duty at Intensive Thoracic Unit (ITU) of the hospital and at about 3.30 am took a break, after informing the concerned shift in-charge. When she did not turn up for duty even after the lapse of almost two hours, the other staff on duty called her many times.”
At around 6:27 in the morning, she was found lying lifeless in a pool of blood in the console room of Cath laboratory. Pavan Chauhan (23), a critical care assistant in the hospital, was found with a cut in his both wrists and was subsequently admitted in the hospital, Harjai added.
After receiving information about the incident, a police party rushed to the scene and recovered the body.
“From the preliminary investigation, it appears that both the man suspected behind the murder and the deceased had planned to end their lives together but the former survived,” the SSP Reasi told Greater Kashmir. “However, we have ordered a probe to ascertain the facts.”
Another police officer, involved in the investigation, said the duo was reportedly perturbed as their families objected to their relationship.
Adding that a case FIR No 94/2018 U/S 302 RPC has been registered in this connection at Police Station Katra, the police officer told Daily Excelsior, “Pawan Chouhan is under treatment and being questioned while dead body of Vishali has been shifted to CHC Katra for post-mortem and other legal formalities”.
