SMS Medical College: 24 year old MD Gynaecology Medico commits suicide, 5 seniors arrested for Harassment
Jaipur: While the medical fraternity is still reeling with the death of an MD gynaecology in Mumbai, who allegedly committed suicide due to casteist harassment from seniors, yet another MD Gynaecology medico, this time from SMS Medical college, Jaipur has now committed suicide
A 24-year-old female doctor who had began pursuing her MD Gynaecology at SMS Medical College two months ago, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her hostel room.
While no suicide note was recovered from the spot, the family members of the deceased filed a police complaint stating that their daughter was being continually harassed by her seniors and based on the same, the Jaipur Police have booked five postgraduate medical students.
Confirming the details about the same to the media, Resident doctor at the government-run Mahila Chikitsalya, Sanganeri Gate, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room Wednesday, SHO, Sanganeri Gate, Raisar Singh said. No suicide note was found there, he added.
However, the family members of the deceased filed a police complaint against five doctors under IPC Section 306 for alleged abetment of suicide of the medico, ACP, Gandhi Nagar, Nawab Khan said. A case has been registered against the five doctors, he added.
The post-mortem of the body will be conducted on Thursday, the SHO said.

Speaking to the media persons, the father of the deceased, said, “In the last two months, she always told us that her seniors would harass her. They used to give her more work, and harass and misbehave with her if she was late for duty. Often, they wouldn’t even let her eat lunch.”
The deceased mother stated, “She had taken admission into the SMS college after completing her MBBS in Punjab. She knew how to handle work place pressure; the issue was harassment. The accused doctors publicly shamed her and told her in front of a packed hall to pack up her bags and leave the college.”
Superintendent of Mahila Chikitsalya Dr Asha Meena said that the medico had taken admission in the postgraduate degree programme in the gynaecology department in May this year.
"The students denied the allegations in the suicide case, but the police have registered an FIR and they are conducting the investigation into the matter,” college principal Dr. Sudhir Bhandari informed TOI, adding that the hostel warden was changed. The 5 doctors have also been suspended.
