Gitam medical college 1st year MBBS student commits suicide

Visakhapatnam: In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old first-year MBBS student at Gitam Medical College allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of the medical college.
The deceased was from Himachal Pradesh and was staying here to complete his medical studies.
The exact cause of death remains unclear, but speculation suggests he may have taken his life following a love failure. Another possible reason being considered is that he felt unable to live up to his doctor father’s expectations in his studies.

To determine the actual cause, police have launched an investigation and are collecting details from others, according to TOI media report.
The incident has left his friends and the college administration in shock, while also causing concern among the parents of other students.
Following his death, the police were informed, who conducted a preliminary investigation and found no suicide note. They then informed his parents about the incident and sent his body for a postmortem. They have registered a case, and a probe is on.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a 24-year-old first-year MBBS student at Government Medical College, Korba, died by suicide in his hostel room on Saturday.
His classmates found him after he failed to appear for an exam. A suicide note was recovered, in which he apologised to his father. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. The college dean said the student had failed in his previous exams and was likely under academic pressure.
A Right to Information (RTI) application shared by the National Medical Commission (NMC) in May 2025 revealed that altogether 119 medical students committed suicide in the last five years. Among these 64 students were pursuing MBBS and 55 students were pursuing PG medical courses.
