Govt creates over 3500 posts for 5 new medical colleges in Andhra
Vijayawada: Through a recent Government Order (GO), the Andhra Pradesh government has notified creation of 3,530 posts for five new medical colleges and teaching hospitals across the state.
The notification in this regard was issued by Chief Secretary M Ravi Chandra, Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department on Tuesday. The State Cabinet had given its approval to create 3,530 posts for the 5 new medical colleges at the rate of 706 posts for each one.
The posts under various categories including principals and professors were created for five medical colleges and teaching hospitals each in Eluru, Machilipatnam, Nandyal, Rajamahendravaram and Vizianagaram.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that referring to the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of 'Establishment of new Medical Colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals', the Minister of State for the Union Health Ministry had confirmed before the Parliament that 3 medical colleges have been approved in Andhra Pradesh under Phase III of this scheme.
Although there were seven proposals of setting up medical colleges in the State, three of them have been sanctioned and those three medical colleges are going to come up at Piduguralla, Paderu and Machilipatnam.

According to a recent media report in The New Indian Express, the State Health Department has decided to start the 5 new medical colleges from the next academic year (2023-24).
Each medical college, as per the recent GO, is given 222 posts and each affiliated teaching hospital is given 484 posts in line with the National Medical Council (NMC) norms, reports The Hindu.
The government is setting up 16 new medical colleges at a total cost of Rs 7,850 crore and has initiated measures to fill more than 40,000 posts in government hospitals.
