Hyderabad: 24 year old MBBS student arrested for alleged marriage fraud, conversion bid, blackmail

Tirupati: A 24-year-old MBBS student was recently arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly deceiving a young woman with a false promise of marriage, forcing her to convert, and blackmailing her with intimate photographs and videos.
It was reportedly alleged that the accused, who is from Akbar Bagh in Malakpet, threatened to share the private material with the woman's relatives and circulate it on social media when she did not agree to his demands to convert to the accused's religion as a precondition for their marriage.

According to a TOI report, police said that the accused met the woman while pursuing medicine in Georgia. Later, their relationship became intimate and subsequently, the accused allegedly called her to a private hotel in Tirupati. However, when the woman insisted on their marriage, the accused allegedly demanded that she convert to his faith. Further, he allegedly threatened her that he would circulate her private photographs and videos on social media and share them with her relatives if she refused.
After receiving a complaint in this regard, a team led by Alipiri police CI Ram Kishore reportedly traced the accused to his residence in Akbar Bagh, Malakpet, Hyderabad. On Thursday, he was arrested and was brought to Tirupati. Police seized the accused's mobile phone for forensic examination and later produced him before a local court.
Meanwhile, Tirupati SP L Subbarayudu said that the safety of women is a priority for the police department. He also warned students living away from home to remain alert regarding acquaintances made online and advised them not to share private photographs or videos. Students have also been advised to keep their families informed about their well-being.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported on a controversy involving a senior resident doctor at KGMU. The accused doctor, who was earlier suspended and booked over serious allegations of sexual exploitation, blackmail, and forcibly attempting to convert a colleague’s religion, had gone absconding. However, a joint team of the Surveillance Unit of West Lucknow and Police Station Chowk arrested the wanted KGMU resident doctor.
