Dhubri medical college to be commissioned this Academic year says Assam Health Department
Guwahati: The Dhubri medical college would be commissioned within the 2022 academic year, informed the Assam health department to the center, whereas efforts are being taken to functionalize the Nalbari and Nagaon medical colleges by the 2023 academic year, reports the Times of India.
The Assam director of medical education, Dr Anup Kumar Barman said, "After the centrally aided medical colleges were completed in Diphu and Lakhimpur recently, the Centre wants timely commissioning of the Dhubri medical college. Assam will get 100 MBBS seats and 500 beds in Dhubri."

On Monday, the Union health secretary Rajesh Bhusan reviewed the development of the key health schemes in the state and the progress of the centrally sponsored schemes. Barman said, "We have been asked to apply for central aid for more government medical colleges this year."
After the coming of these three colleges, the number of MBBS seats in Assam would increase by a count of nearly 300, whereas the number of beds attached to the medical colleges would go up from 8000 to 9500. The adjacent hospital of a medical college requires at least 350 beds in the northeast to get recognition from the National Medical Commission.
As per the TOI report, he said that the construction work of the Dhubri medical college has been completed, and the college will be commissioned in the next year (2022 academic year) whereas the upcoming Nalbari medical college and Nagaon medical colleges, whose work is over by 70%, is expected to be ready by the 2023 academic session.
The Nagaon and Nalbari medical colleges would be catering to the needs of a significant population in the central and lower Assam.
Earlier in February this year, the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had inaugurated the eighth medical college hospital, Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital in the state, following which the total number of MBBS seats in the state had increased to 1100. The above proposed three medical colleges are expected to increase the total number of MBBS seats to 1400.
