PM Modi lays foundation stones of proposed Karimganj Medical College, integrated building of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital
Assam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone for an integrated new building of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,250 crore.
He also laid the foundation stones for the proposed Karimganj Medical College and Hospital, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 578 crore.
He met the office bearers of the BJP's state core committee at night and discussed party affairs, a senior official informed PTI.
"In the meeting, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, state minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, state BJP President Bhabesh Kalita and other party leaders were present," he said.
As per the data shared by the Union Health Minister recently, currently Assam has 13 medical colleges with 1550 MBBS and 738 PG medical seats.
The Health Minister shared this information while responding to a series of questions raised by Shrimati Poonam Mahajan and Dr. Beesetti Venkata Satyavathi. These questioned included the queries regarding the adequate measures taken by the Government to increase the number of medical colleges and undergraduate/postgraduate seats in the country to meet the medical standards as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the details along with the number of Medical Colleges established and seats increased, State/UT wise details during the last five years and the current year, the details of Government and Private medical colleges along with the total intake capacity in the country, State/UT wise, the steps taken by the Government to improve the quality of medical education in the country etc.
