Posing as gangster, Delhi man, nephew attempt to extort doctor, held
Delhi: A doctor recently received an extortion call from an uncle-nephew duo posing as gangster and threatening the medical practitioner to pay Rs 5 lakhs.
The accused have been identified as a resident of New Delhi and his accomplice, a resident of Jagraon. They were nabbed by the police near a sugar mill where they came to collect the money. The doctor had received extortion calls on July 28 and August 5. He filed a complaint with the Jagraon City police.
As per a recent media report by Hindustan Times, the accused first called the doctor and introduced himself as a gangster. He also claimed that he was calling from jail. The caller threatened the doctor and asked him to deliver Rs 5 lakhs in cash. The doctor again received the second call on August 5th and the caller instructed him to hand over the cash to his aids at different spots.
However, the doctor instead approached the police and narrated the whole incident. Police then hatched a plan to nab the offenders in action. The police finally arrested the duo near a sugar mill when they reached the spot on a motorcycle to collect the money.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 384 (extortion) and 34 (acts done in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, reports the daily.
ASI Pritam Masih, who is investigating the case confirmed that the culprits called the doctor from his own number, and his accomplice was his nephew. His nephew already knew the doctor and he made the entire plan along with his uncle to extort money from the doctor.
Police are further investigating the case.
